Back Again, Still Viewing Cantinflas.

The Cantinflas movie that I love the most so far is:  El Patrullero 777. Mario Moreno first showed up as 777 in 1948.  It took 29 years for them to make a second 777 movie. I'm not sure what it is that I love about this movie, but I do find it delightful.

Cantinflas

I am busy immersing myself in the world of Cantinflas (Mario Moreno) via You Tube. These movies go all the way back to the late 30's, and the last one was 1981! I am experiencing Mexican Spanish as spoken by Moreno and friends, as it developed through decades of the 20th century. This experience would have been unbelievable back in the 70's when I first struggled to learn Spanish.  Back then, it was almost impossible to find (affordable) sources of spoken Spanish, and I did not live in an area where Spanish was spoken. I could not travel to a Spanish speaking country or area. All I had was books and I was determined to learn! But it was slow going.

I really love this Cantinflas trip.

Time For The Movies!

I am having a great deal of fun watching old Cantinflas movies from Mexico on You Tube. I haven't decided yet which one is my favorite, but I will let you know.

That Bad Girl!

I have re-discovered my copy of TRAVESURAS DE LA NIÑA MALA by Mario Vargas LLosa. Since in the past I read this about 2/3 of the way through, I may finish reading this and reviewing it before I go back to Aunt Julia And The Scriptwriter. I am slow with this work, but I enjoy the reading and am not planning to give up on this blog.

I'M STILL HERE!

I will be activating this blog again very soon. I am working through LA COLMENA by CELA  on my other blog, and will soon be here with AUNT JULIA AND THE SCRIPTWRITER by LLOSA. I was ill and had to give up most of my struggles with Spanish until I recovered.

Frustration With Spanish Vocab

What do you do when the frustration hits? I  have bad days when I can't deal with, upon reading a Spanish Lit book, having to look up up one word after another, after another, after another...it's almost enough to make you give up. And I thought I had an very good Spanish vocabulary!

I am Enjoying My Slow Progress!

I am struggling through the reading in Spanish of Aunt Julia And The Scriptwriter (La Tía Julia Y El Escribidor) by Mario Vargas Llosa.  I'm enjoying it, though it gets a bit frustrating to come across word after word that I have to look up. I thought I had a pretty good Spanish vocabulary, But this can make one feel quite stupid!

Here is a great place to look up words online:
